Caring for Your New French Bulldog Puppy

Congratulations on welcoming a new French Bulldog into your family! At Premier Frenchie Pups, we want every puppy to enjoy a long, healthy, and happy life. While your puppy has already received the best possible start with around-the-clock love, socialization, and veterinary care, the next chapter begins with you.

This guide will help you prepare for your new family member and provide simple tips on feeding, training, exercise, grooming, and keeping your French Bulldog healthy for years to come.

Preparing for Your Puppy

Before bringing your puppy home, we recommend having these essentials ready:

  • Quality puppy food (Nutrisource)
  • Food and water bowls
  • Comfortable dog bed
  • Crate for training
  • Collar and leash
  • Puppy-safe chew toys
  • Training treats
  • Enzyme cleaner for accidents
  • Grooming brush
  • Nail clippers or grinder

Creating a safe, quiet area in your home will help your puppy adjust more comfortably during the first few days.

Feeding Your French Bulldog

French Bulldog puppies thrive on high-quality puppy food designed for small breeds. Young puppies typically eat three meals each day until around six months of age before gradually transitioning to two meals daily.

Always provide fresh, clean drinking water and avoid making sudden changes to your puppy’s food. If switching foods, gradually mix the new food with the current food over several days to avoid digestive upset.

Avoid feeding table scraps, chocolate, grapes, onions, garlic, xylitol, or other foods that are toxic to dogs.

Potty Training Tips

Consistency is the key to successful potty training.

Take your puppy outside:

  • Immediately after waking up
  • After eating or drinking
  • After playtime
  • Before bedtime
  • Every few hours throughout the day

Reward successful potty trips with praise and treats. Accidents will happen, especially during the first few weeks. Stay patient, clean accidents thoroughly, and continue following a consistent routine.

Crate Training

A properly sized crate provides your puppy with a safe and comfortable place to relax.

Crate training helps with:

  • Housebreaking
  • Preventing destructive behavior
  • Establishing routines
  • Safe travel
  • Reducing anxiety

Never use the crate as punishment. Instead, make it a positive place with comfortable bedding, toys, and treats.

Early Training

French Bulldogs are intelligent and eager to please, making them enjoyable companions to train.

Begin teaching basic commands such as:

  • Sit
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Down
  • Leave It
  • Heel

Keep training sessions short, positive, and rewarding. Five to ten minutes several times each day is more effective than one long training session.

Positive reinforcement with praise and treats produces the best results.

Socialization

Proper socialization is one of the most important parts of raising a confident French Bulldog.

Expose your puppy to:

  • New people
  • Friendly dogs
  • Children
  • Different environments
  • Car rides
  • Household sounds
  • Grooming routines

Positive experiences during puppyhood help develop a confident and well-adjusted adult dog.

Exercise

French Bulldogs enjoy daily activity but should never be over-exercised.

Daily exercise may include:

  • Short walks
  • Backyard playtime
  • Interactive toys
  • Puzzle games
  • Basic training sessions

Because French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed, avoid strenuous exercise during hot or humid weather. Always provide access to shade and plenty of fresh water.

Grooming

French Bulldogs are relatively low-maintenance but benefit from regular grooming.

Weekly care includes:

  • Brushing their coat
  • Cleaning facial wrinkles
  • Checking ears
  • Trimming nails
  • Brushing teeth
  • Bathing when needed

Keeping skin folds clean and dry helps prevent irritation and infection.

Veterinary Care

Routine veterinary care helps your puppy stay healthy throughout life.

Your veterinarian will guide you regarding:

  • Vaccination schedules
  • Parasite prevention
  • Heartworm prevention
  • Flea and tick prevention
  • Annual wellness exams
  • Dental care

Every puppy from Premier Frenchie Pups is vet checked before going home and is current on vaccinations and deworming appropriate for their age.
